Procurement Assistant, Susan Mkandawire was all smiles on Friday when she received a certificate in the inaugural “You Shine’ Awards. The Finance and Programme Management Resource Unit (PMRU) Departments also received certificates.
The “You Shine” scheme, a brainchild of the Staff Association and Senior Management Team (SMT) aims at promoting an office culture of staff to staff recognition to encourage a supportive atmosphere and highlight the positive contributions of colleagues in an immediate and public manner. The exercise will be conducted monthly and winners’ photographs will be displayed on the Wall of Fame in the Conference room to shine for others.All members of staff were given cards at the beginning of November to award individual colleagues or teams that have in one way or another made a positive impact on their work life.Mkandawire got 15 “You Shine” cards in the individual category, followed by Administrative Associate Hariet Mariani with 12 while Finance Associate, Janet Chikombole scooped position three with 11 cards.In the Department category, Finance and PMRU both got 5 cards. They were also awarded certificates. Mkandawire was among other reasons recognized for swift action on requisitions, acquiring quotations at short notice, hard work, explaining procurement procedures to colleagues, a pillar in the procurement assisting in printing UN Day materials, among others. Mariani was rewarded for handling fuel situation, backstopping functions, quick processing of requisitions, processing of office renovations and transport management, while Chikombole was recognized for timely processing of salaries, timely running of the pay cycle, working on payment issues without complaining, among other reasons.The Finance Department was awarded for responding to follow ups despite their busy schedules, timely processing of salaries and contributing to the country office dashboard’s green position, while PMRU was recognized for overcoming project challenges, clearing NEX aging advances and also contributing to the green position of the country office dashboard.Asked how she felt about the award, Mkandawire said “I just feel great and humbly honored. This being the first of its kind in the history of the CO, I thank God for letting me be the first prize winner. It’s an achievement worth noting and it has taught me great lesson,” she saidShe added: There are things we take for granted in life, for example, I received some cards from colleagues I never expected noticed my performance. This is very encouraging and motivating at the same time. To all those who contributed to my winning this noble prize, I thank you and may God Bless you all.
