Malawian triumphs in UNDP/Olympus Corporation/AFP photo contest
Lilongwe, 27 January 2010 - UNDP Resident Representative Mr. Richard Dictus presents a state- of- the art camera to Caesar Kachale, one of the winner s in the Picture this Caring for the Earth photo contest (Amateur category) which was organized by UNDP in partnership with Olympus Corporation and the Agence France-Presse (AFP) Foundation.
The contest was aimed at profiling ordinary people working to preserve the environment and reduce the effects of climate change in their communities. Caeser’s winning photograph was about three school girls in Phalombe district grafting a tree. He took the photo during one o his filed visits as a Project Officer for food and Agricultural Organisation FAO (Malawi) to a project in the district that works to provide livelihood skills to Malawi children through the tending of a school garden. The project established learning gardens in primary schools and youth club centres and participants graduated with the skills needed to make similar gardens at home. The other winners were from Kenya, Morocco, Cameroon, Lesotho, Senegal and South Africa
