Malawi releases the 2008 MDGs Report

Millenium Development Goals 2008.pdfLilongwe, December 23, 2008 -  Government of Malawi, with support from UNDP has released the 2008 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Report indicating significant positive change in the eradication of extreme poverty and hunger and the achievement of Universal Primary Education. The report says poverty head count was reduced to from 54 percent in 1990 to 40 percent in 2006, prevalence of underweight children was reduced from 28 percent in 1990 to 14 percent in 2007 and the proportion of ultra poor population reduced from 24…

UNDP Malawi has a new Deputy Resident Representative, Programmes (DRRP).

Lilongwe, November 17, 2008 - UNDP Malawi has a new Deputy Resident Representative responsible for Programmes (DRRP) and his name is Mr. Ram Shankar.Mr. Shankar, a Canadian national, is coming from UNDP Country Office in the Islands of Maldives where he was Programme Manager for the Tsunami Recovery Programme.His career with UNDP started in 2004 in Nigeria where he was Programme Manager for UNDP Nigeria’s Governance Programme.He joinde the UNDP through the Leadership Development Programme (LEAD).
