Sustainable Economic Empowerment

UNDP Malawi works closely with partners to build the national capacity to combat the widespread and deep-rooted poverty in Malawi. More than 65% of the population lives below the national poverty line.

The Government of Malawi has launched the Malawi Growth and Development Strategy in 2006 as policy framework to reduce poverty through economic growth and empowerment of the poor.

We support this national initiative to achieve the Millennium Development Goals through our various programme interventions in the areas of Pro-Poor Policy, Economic and Social Empowerment, Monitoring and Evaluation, Private Sector Development (Trade and Investment), Information Communication and Technology for Development (ICTD), Energy and Environment, and Disaster Preventions and Recovery.

UNDP Malawi is committed to support Malawi to strengthen their capacity to deliver services in the critical social sectors such as Education, Health and Food Security, as the experiences around the globe confirm the vital role played by the social sector investments in creating sustainable economic growth.
