Lilongwe, November 17, 2008 UNDP Malawi has a new Deputy Resident Representative responsible for Programmes (DRRP) and his name is Mr. Ram Shankar.
Mr. Shankar, a Canadian national, is coming from UNDP Country Office in the Islands of Maldives where he was Programme Manager for the Tsunami Recovery Programme.
His career with UNDP started in 2004 in Nigeria where he was Programme Manager for UNDP Nigeria’s Governance Programme.
He joinde the UNDP through the Leadership Development Programme (LEAD).
Before joining UNDP, the new DRR P worked with CIDA, Oxfam Great Britain in Ethiopia and Kosovo and the University of London. He also worked as a lawyer in India.

| UNDP consults on National Human Development Report |

Lilongwe, October 11, 2008: The UNDP in Malawi is in the process of consulting stakeholders to finalise the publication of the National Human Development Report (NHDR), the agencies flagship publication meant to foster debate on gender issues in Malawi.
UNDP also commissioned three specialist readers from The University of Malawi and one from the National Statistical Office (NSO) as peer readers to review the document before publication.

| UNDP engages media on ethical reporting on elections |

Blantyre, October 29, 2008: In a bid to fully engage the media to effectively report on the May 09, 2009 elections, UNDP in collaboration with Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) held a one day colloquium for news editors and reporters from both the electronic and print media to deliberate on issues affecting elections reporting in Malawi.
Speaking when he opened the meeting, the interim UNDP Resident Representative Dr. Joseph Mugore challenged the media to have the welfare of the country at heart when making decisions on what to print or broadcast to ensure that they do |
